À l’heure où le public recherche des expériences sonores nouvelles, capables de surprendre sans se répéter, certains artistes parviennent encore à renouveler nos repères. Avec Stories, son deuxième album, Annega confirme son statut de voix singulière de la scène mauricienne et signe un tournant artistique empreint de maturité, de sensibilité et de liberté créative.
Connue pour des titres comme Sakinoule, Losean ou Nou Ale, Annega a toujours mêlé rythmes enracinés et influences venues d’ailleurs. Nous étions donc curieux de découvrir la suite de ce parcours musical. Début novembre, au J&J Auditorium, l’artiste et son équipe dévoilaient en avant-première Stories, un album qui prolonge cet héritage tout en ouvrant de nouvelles portes. Plus nuancé, plus introspectif, il témoigne d’une exploration élargie de son univers créatif.
Un album façonné dans le temps
Quatre années séparent Stories de Remember Me (2021). Un temps volontaire, explique l’artiste, qui a travaillé main dans la main avec Cedric Cartier, co-auteur, co-compositeur et directeur exécutif du projet. « Nous avons pris le temps de trouver la sonorité que nous voulions, avec plus de recherche et de patience », confie-t-elle.
Cette quête s’est traduite par une méthode de création inédite : sessions de résidence avec les musiciens, immersion d’un mois dans une maison transformée en studio DIY dans le nord de l’île, disponibilité constante pour saisir les idées dès qu’elles surgissaient. Ce processus collectif et organique constitue, selon Annega, « la magie de Stories ».
Résultat : un album qui a macéré, mûri, évolué. Douze titres, certains commencés il y a cinq ans et retravaillés au fil du temps, d’autres nés plus récemment, forment un ensemble cohérent où chaque détail — arrangements, structure, mixage, production — a été pensé avec soin. Yann Payet signe les arrangements et la production instrumentale, Ilario Armel et Vincent Nombro apportent les ajustements finaux, tandis que le mixage est assuré par Ilario Armel et Thierry Maillard.
Une plongée dans les histoires qui nous rassemblent
Comme son titre l’indique, Stories rassemble des récits : rencontres, expériences de vie, confidences intimes mais universelles. L’album oscille entre atmosphérique et incandescent, simplicité et couches de mélodies foisonnantes, pour créer un espace d’écoute où l’on peut à la fois s’évader et se reconnaître.
Parmi les morceaux qui se démarquent, Annega cite Butterfly, empreint d’une identité sonore singulière, ou Eoula, plus ancrée dans un registre local, solaire et immédiatement accrocheur. En live, elle dévoile également On My Own Again, une ballade brute et vulnérable née d’une rupture, qui révèle une facette plus dépouillée de l’artiste.
Sur scène, Stories prend une dimension encore plus immersive : mise en lumière soignée, visuels hypnotiques, énergie collective du groupe. L’ensemble compose une narration vivante, mouvante, presque cinématographique.

Le public pourra découvrir l’album lors d’un concert exceptionnel le 12 décembre 2025, avant sa sortie officielle. L’album est disponible en précommande sur annega.mu, et ses titres seront ensuite diffusés progressivement sur les plateformes de streaming.
En attendant, Annega exprime sa gratitude et son ambition : « Nous avons créé quelque chose que nous espérons marquant ; quelque chose de nouveau pour Maurice. With Stories, her second album, Mauritian singer Annega confirms her place as one of the island’s most distinctive contemporary voices. Mature, textured and creatively fearless, the project signals a new chapter in her artistic evolution.

A project shaped by time and intention
Four years separate Stories from Remember Me (2021). A deliberate pause, Annega explains, spent searching for a sonic direction refined with patience and curiosity. She collaborated closely with Cedric Cartier—co-writer, co-composer and executive director of the project—on a process that was as experimental as it was intimate.
This creative journey took the team into a month-long residency in the north of the island, where they transformed a house into a DIY recording studio. Living and working together, they captured ideas in real time, allowing music to emerge organically. “That’s the magic of Stories,” Annega says.
The result is an album that has brewed, matured and blossomed before reaching listeners. Its twelve tracks include compositions that began five years ago, reworked over time, as well as newer pieces that reflect their most recent inspirations. Every detail—arrangements, structure, mixing and production—was carefully crafted. Yann Payet led the arrangements and instrumental production; Ilario Armel and Vincent Nombro contributed the final refinements; and the album was mixed by Ilario Armel and Thierry Maillard.

True to its title, Stories weaves together narratives—encounters, life experiences, intimate reflections that echo universally. Sonically, the album moves between atmospheric and incandescent, between simplicity and layered melodic textures, inviting listeners into a space that feels both introspective and expansive.
Among the standout tracks, Annega highlights Butterfly, noted for its distinctive style and emotional scope, and Eoula, a more locally infused, sunlit and instantly catchy piece. During the preview performance, she also unveiled On My Own Again, a raw and vulnerable exploration of heartbreak that reveals a different facet of her artistry.
On stage, Stories acquires an even richer dimension: precise lighting, hypnotic visuals, and the fluid energy of the band combine to create a performance that feels immersive and cinematic.
