Alors que l’Euro 2024 enflamme le quotidien des passionnés de foot, les enfants ne sont pas en reste. C’est du moins la démarche d’Ocean’s Creek qui, après avoir lancé un mois de diffusion des matchs de football à l’hôtel de Le Goulet, a organisé dimanche 23 juin EURO KIDS, une compétition réunissant huit équipes des moins de 12 ans venant de différentes régions de l’île. Une initiative qui a rencontré un vif succès et enchanté les enfants mais aussi les parents qui avaient fait le déplacement.
« Avec l’engouement que connaît l’Euro auprès des adultes qui passent de belles soirées lors des matchs diffusés à l’hôtel, nous avons pensé qu’il était opportun d’inclure les enfants dans ce grand moment. Car, ne l’oublions pas, les compétitions internationales suscitent beaucoup de passion chez les adultes comme chez les enfants. D’où l’idée d’organiser une compétition sur une journée avec des équipes des moins de 12 ans venant de différentes parties de l’île », explique Vincent Comarmond, directeur général d’Ocean’s Creek.
Huit équipes avaient répondu à l’invitation : Curepipe Starlight, FCCA, Pointe aux Sables, Racing, Moka rangers, Riche Terre, Tamarin et St François Xavier. Ces équipes qui sont déjà dans une ligue avaient ainsi l’occasion de clôturer leur saison par une belle journée de compétition footballistique mais aussi de camaraderie et fun. « Nous avons voulu partager cette passion de l’Euro avec eux car chaque équipe portait le drapeau d’une nation finaliste de la compétition mais aussi leur donner l’occasion de s’amuser à l’hôtel avec les nombreuses activités dont la piscine et le toboggan ».
C’est une équipe dédiée d’Ocean’s Creek qui a pris en charge toute l’occasion du tournoi et mis en place la logistique. Les matchs se sont déroulés sur le terrain de PADCO, qui se trouve sur l’autre berge de la rivière Tombeau. La finale a été remportée par les Moka Rangers (sous le drapeau espagnol) qui ont battu la FCCA (drapeau du Portugal) par 1-0. Après la compétition, les enfants ont traversé la rivière par bateau pour se rendre à l’hôtel où les attendaient un déjeuner et la remise des prix. Ils ont ensuite pu s’amuser jusqu’à 16 heures avant de repartir heureux d’une belle journée qui devrait se renouveler selon Vincent au vu du succès de cette grande première.

As Euro 2024 sets football fans’ daily lives alight, children are not to be outdone. That, at least, is the approach taken by Ocean’s Creek, which, after launching a month of football match broadcasts at the hotel in Le Goulet, organised EURO KIDS on Sunday 23 June, a competition bringing together eight teams of under-12s from different parts of the island. The event was a great success, not only for the children but also for the parents who came along.
« With the Euro so popular with adults, who enjoy evenings watching the matches at the hotel, we thought it would be a good idea to include the children in this great event. Because let us not forget, international competitions arouse a great deal of passion in adults and children alike. Hence the idea of organising a one-day competition with teams of under-12s from different parts of the island », explains Vincent Comarmond, general manager of Ocean’s Creek.
Eight teams accepted the invitation: Curepipe Starlight, FCCA, Pointe aux Sables, Racing, Moka Rangers, Riche Terre, Tamarin and St François Xavier. These teams, who are already in a league, had the opportunity to round off their season with a great day of football competition, camaraderie, and fun. « We wanted to share this passion for the Euros with them, because each team carried the flag of a finalist nation in the competition, but also to allow them to have fun at the hotel with the many activities, including the swimming pool and the slide ».
A dedicated team from Ocean’s Creek took charge of the entire tournament and set up the logistics. The matches took place on the PADCO pitch, which is on the other bank of the Tombeau River. The final was won by Moka Rangers (under the flag of Spain), who beat FCCA ( sporting Portugal )à 1-0. After the competition, the children crossed the river by boat to the hotel, where lunch and the prize-giving ceremony awaited them. They then enjoyed themselves until 4 p.m. before leaving happy after a great day, which Vincent hopes will be repeated, given the success of this first event.
