La 18ᵉ édition du CIEL Ferney Trail a confirmé, samedi 13 septembre, son statut de rendez-vous incontournable du sport et de la solidarité à Maurice. Plus de 4 300 participant·e·s ont pris part aux quatre courses — Sunlife Fun Run 5 km, CIEL 10 km, Bank One 18 km et C-Care 35 km — et au Village du Trail installé devant l’ancienne usine de Ferney, transformée pour l’occasion en un lieu festif et chaleureux.
Des performances de haut niveau
Sur la distance reine, le C-Care 35 km, le Mauricien Vishal Ittoo a conservé son titre avec brio, améliorant son temps de plus de trois minutes et terminant avec 12 minutes d’avance sur Jean Will Smith, son dauphin de 2024. Rowin Raggoo complète le podium. Chez les dames, la Française Rosemary Le Gac, installée à Maurice, a remporté sa première victoire avec une avance confortable de vingt minutes sur Leria François et Sabrina Rabot Keisler.
Les autres courses n’ont pas manqué d’intensité. Sur le Bank One 18 km, les champions sortants Guianella Marie-Louise et Ezeckiel Colin ont conservé leurs titres en améliorant légèrement leurs chronos.
Fidèle à son esprit d’inclusion, le CIEL Ferney Trail a de nouveau proposé l’expérience unique du CIEL 10 km en joëlette. Deux personnes en situation de handicap, le jeune Zaheer Khodabocus et le para-athlète Nesta Prudence, ont pu vivre la magie des sentiers de Ferney grâce à des équipes de bénévoles mobilisés pour pousser et porter ces fauteuils spéciaux. Une aventure humaine et sportive saluée par les applaudissements du public à l’arrivée.
Une fête pour tous les Mauriciens
Au-delà de la compétition, l’ambiance conviviale du Village du Trail a marqué cette édition : animations pour enfants, massages pour les coureurs, souvenirs photo et le traditionnel déjeuner mauricien offert à tous — riz, lentilles et « rougaille saucisse ». Pour Guillaume Dalais, Group Chief Executive du Groupe CIEL, « cette édition record illustre la magie d’un rendez-vous qui conjugue sport, nature et solidarité ».
Un engagement durable
Le CIEL Ferney Trail poursuit également son engagement environnemental : suppression des packs de course, fontaines d’eau pour bouteilles réutilisables et t-shirts disponibles uniquement à l’achat. Ces choix s’inscrivent dans la vision de Ferney Ltd, gestionnaire du domaine, qui développe le projet Tropical Agrihood, un modèle d’intégration entre agriculture durable, habitat bioclimatique et respect du patrimoine naturel.
CIEL Ferney Trail 2025: Trail running event highlights sport, inclusion and environment
The 18th edition of the CIEL Ferney Trail confirmed its reputation as one of Mauritius’ most anticipated sporting and solidarity events. On Saturday, September 13, over 4,300 participants joined the four races — Sunlife Fun Run 5 km, CIEL 10 km, Bank One 18 km, and C-Care 35 km — as well as the lively Trail Village, hosted in the historic Ferney sugar factory, transformed into a festive and welcoming hub.
High-Level Performances
On the main distance, the C-Care 35 km, Mauritian runner Vishal Ittoo successfully defended his title, improving his time by more than three minutes and finishing with a 12-minute lead over Jean Will Smith, his 2024 runner-up. Rowin Raggoo completed the podium. Among the women, France-born and Mauritius-based Rosemary Le Gac claimed her first victory, finishing more than twenty minutes ahead of Leria François and Sabrina Rabot Keisler.
Other races also delivered intense competition. On the Bank One 18 km, defending champions Guianella Marie-Louise and Ezeckiel Colin held onto their crowns, slightly improving their times compared to last year.
True to its values of inclusion, the CIEL Ferney Trail once again offered the unique experience of the CIEL 10 km in joëlette. Two participants with disabilities — young Zaheer Khodabocus and para-athlete Nesta Prudence — discovered Ferney’s trails thanks to teams of volunteers who carried and pushed the special wheelchairs along the course. Their arrival at the finish line, cheered by the crowd, was one of the most emotional highlights of the day.
A Celebration for All Mauritians
Beyond competition, the convivial spirit of the Trail Village added to the magic of the event: children’s activities, massages for runners, souvenir photos, and the traditional free Mauritian meal — rice, lentils, and “rougaille saucisse.” For Guillaume Dalais, Group Chief Executive of CIEL Group, “this record-breaking edition once again highlights the unique spirit of the CIEL Ferney Trail, combining sport, nature, and solidarity.”
A Strong Commitment to Sustainability
The CIEL Ferney Trail also reinforced its eco-conscious approach: no sponsor race packs, free water available at fountains for reusable bottles, and event t-shirts sold separately to reduce waste. These measures align with the vision of Ferney Ltd, which manages the estate and is currently developing the Tropical Agrihood project — a long-term model that integrates sustainable farming, bioclimatic housing, and the preservation of Ferney’s rich natural heritage.
