May 23, 5:50 pm

Ocean’s Creek: A Nurturing Ground for Young Talents from the Sir Gaëtan Duval Hotel School

In an ever-evolving industry, knowledge transfer, passion for the profession, and support for young talent are more crucial than ever. This is the spirit behind the collaboration between the Sir Gaëtan Duval Hotel School (EHSGD) and Ocean’s Creek, a 4*+ hotel with a distinctly modern outlook. Through the testimonies of team members trained at EHSGD, this synergy takes on its full meaning: quality training combined with a human, forward-thinking approach to hospitality.

Sahaz: High Standards in Service of Humanity

Now Executive Housekeeper at Ocean’s Creek, Sahaz began his career at Sofitel Imperial in 2002 before joining the Hotel School in 2003. There, he discovered discipline, rigor, foreign languages, and an environment conducive to professional development.

“The School opened my eyes to all aspects of the trade. Even today, what I learned there serves me daily.”

Now also an examiner, Sahaz mentors young professionals with kindness. Ocean’s Creek’s modern approach appeals to the new generation: casual uniforms, respect for individuality, and a culture of mutual respect.

“We want every team member to feel good, heard, and valued. That’s true hospitality.”

Brando: Building a Career with an International Dimension

Armed with a Higher National Diploma in Hospitality, Brando focused on mobility and hands-on experience. Through internships at renowned establishments and then a European career with Club Med, he developed a global vision of hospitality.

“The school helped me move quickly from theory to practice, with internships that truly prepared me for the field.”

Returning to Mauritius, he joined Ocean’s Creek at its inception, drawn by its 4*+ positioning — blending modernity and personalization. He now leads tailor-made events with strategic insight.

“Here, I put into action everything I’ve learned since the beginning. It’s a unique product, with a clear vision.”

After the presentation, the students had the opportunity to visit the hotel, have lunch on-site and take part in all the activities on offer. As well as learning the basics of the business and the steps to take to progress in the field, the day opened up new perspectives and possibilities for the young people. Indeed, the team worked together to emphasise that, despite the hotel industry’s rigid codes of strictness, appearance and level of service, the sector could evolve towards new principles that impose fewer limits on self-expression. Vincent pointed out that, in recruitment, the emphasis is on attitude rather than appearance, pointing out that piercings and tattoos in no way limit productivity or quality of service.

A modern and committed vision of hospitality

Stéphanie: A Committed Professional Dedicated to Passing on Knowledge

With both her father and uncle working in hospitality, Stéphanie Barry naturally gravitated toward the industry. A talk by the Hotel School’s deputy director confirmed her calling — despite her background in science. Graduating in management in the early 2000s, Stéphanie interned at prestigious institutions, including Michelin-starred Aux Âmes de Champagne.

She began as a management trainee at Beau Rivage (now LUX Belle Mare*) in Guest Relations, then moved to Sales Coordinator at Sands Suites Resort & Spa. That experience sparked her passion for sales — and she quickly climbed the ranks to become Director. With opportunities to travel extensively, the job became a passion, despite the inherent challenges.

A mother of three, she continued thanks to the support of her parents and colleagues. She highlights the team spirit she has always experienced since her internship days.

“The internships helped me understand how all departments are connected. I apply that synergy every day,” says Ocean’s Creek’s Sales Manager.

Today, she is committed to offering interns a meaningful, professional, and enriching experience.

“The school helped me understand the synergy within a hotel. In my role, I collaborate with F&B, reservations, housekeeping… Marketing can’t operate in a silo.”

Her goal: to pass on that vision to the next generation, fully integrating them into the team’s daily operations.

“They’re not left on the sidelines to observe — they’re involved. I didn’t have that kind of support, so I want to give them more.”

A Purposeful and Forward-Looking Alliance

The partnership between the Sir Gaëtan Duval Hotel School and Ocean’s Creek embodies a modern, committed vision of hospitality: training competent, passionate professionals ready to meet the challenges of a transforming industry.

Through the inspiring journeys of Sahaz, Brando, and their colleague, it becomes clear that this alliance goes far beyond education. It builds real bridges between theory and practice, personal ambition and collective purpose. It empowers young professionals, giving them the tools to grow and flourish in a supportive professional environment.

Ocean’s Creek thus stands out as a key player in nurturing tomorrow’s talent — with the Hotel School as a trusted partner in shaping a new generation of committed hospitality professionals.
