Yanish Bandhoo, félicité par le ministère du Tourisme, après avoir remporté le premier prix d’un concours international de mixologie

Le jeune Yanish Bandhoo, barman à l’hôtel Veranda Palmar et stagiaire à l’École Hôtelière Sir Gaëtan Duval, a remporté le premier prix dans la catégorie Mixologie internationale de la 9e édition de la World Food Competition 2025. Son exploit a eu une reconnaissance officielle du ministre du Tourisme, Richard Duval et son collègue, le ministre délégué au Tourisme, Sydney Pierre, lundi 17 mars à l’École Hôtelière Sir Gaëtan Duval à Ébène. Yanish avait participé à la compétition de mixologie organisée par le Guru Nanak Institute of Hotel Management, qui s’est tenu du 25 au 27 février 2025 à Kolkata, en Inde.

Dans son discours, le ministre Duval a félicité M. Bandhoo pour ses performances exceptionnelles, son travail acharné, sa discipline, son dévouement et sa créativité, ainsi que ses formateurs pour leurs conseils. Il a affirmé que « Yanish avait mis l’île Maurice sur la carte du monde ». Le ministre a souligné que le métier de barman exige passion et détermination, ce dont font preuve les stagiaires de l’École hôtelière Sir Gaëtan Duval.

Richard Duval a assuré que son ministère continuera à persévérer pour que l’École hôtelière obtienne plus de visibilité tant au niveau local qu’international tout en offrant la meilleure formation possible aux jeunes qui veulent rejoindre le secteur de l’hôtellerie.

Pour sa part, le ministre délégué, Sydney Pierre a fait remarquer que la victoire de M. Bandhoo témoigne du fait que le travail effectué à l’École Hôtelière Sir Gaëtan Duval donne des résultats positifs. Il a avancé que « l’excellence n’est pas une destination mais un voyage et que le travail acharné est toujours payant ».

Sydney Pierre a encouragé tous les étudiants à repousser leurs limites et à donner le meilleur d’eux-mêmes dans leurs domaines respectifs afin d’assurer un service de haute qualité dans l’industrie hôtelière de l’île Maurice.

La 9e World Food Competition 2025 a rassemblé quelque 160 participants de 40 pays qui se sont affrontés dans plusieurs catégories, à savoir : International Culinary ; International Fruit Carving ; International Mixology ; et International Cake Icing. Yannish Bandhoo a présenté plusieurs cocktails lors de la compétition internationale de mixologie, allant du « Trip to Jaisalmer » au « Spicy Mary » en passant par le « Red Pomelo ». A noter que Maurice était représentée dans plusieurs catégories.

Young Yanish Bandhoo, a barman at the Veranda Palmar Hotel and trainee at the Sir Gaëtan Duval Hotel School, has won first prize in the international mixology category of the 9th World Food Competition 2025. His achievement was officially recognised by the Minister of Tourism, Richard Duval, and his colleague, the Minister Delegate for Tourism, Sydney Pierre, on Monday 17 March at the Sir Gaëtan Duval Hotel School in Ébène. Yanish participated in the mixology competition organised by the Guru Nanak Institute of Hotel Management, which was held from 25 to 27 February 2025 in Kolkata, India.

In his speech, Minister Duval congratulated Mr Bandhoo for his outstanding performance, hard work, discipline, dedication and creativity as his trainers for their guidance. He said that ‘Yanish has put Mauritius on the world map’. The Minister pointed out that the profession of bartender requires passion and determination, which the trainees at the Sir Gaëtan Duval Hotel School have shown.

Richard Duval assured the audience that his department would continue to persevere so that the École hôtelière could gain greater visibility both locally and internationally while offering the best possible training to young people wishing to enter the hotel industry.

For his part, Minister Delegate Sydney Pierre pointed out that Mr Bandhoo’s victory testifies to the fact that the work carried out at the Sir Gaëtan Duval Hotel School is producing positive results. He said that ‘excellence is not a destination but a journey, and hard work always pays off’.

Mr Pierre encouraged all the students to push their limits and give their best in their respective fields to ensure high-quality service in the hospitality industry in Mauritius.

The 9th World Food Competition 2025 brought together some 160 participants from 40 countries who competed in several categories, namely: International Culinary; International Fruit Carving; International Mixology; and International Cake Icing. Yannish Bandhoo presented several cocktails in the International Mixology competition, ranging from “Trip to Jaisalmer” to “Spicy Mary” and “Red Pomelo”. Mauritius was represented in several categories.
