L’hôtel Ocean’s Creek a accueilli, le 3 octobre dernier , la première conférence sur la durabilité organisée par Safe Sha Training Centre Ltd, fondé par Sameera Chattun Koyratty, montrant ainsi son engagement fort pour la durabilité à Maurice
Placée sous le thème “The Sustainability Advantage: Rethink, Rebuild, Regenerate”, cette rencontre a réuni des experts de divers secteurs autour d’un même objectif : repenser nos modèles économiques et sociaux pour construire un avenir plus durable à Maurice.
Rethink : relier les enjeux pour un futur commun
La conférence s’est ouverte sur une citation inspirante de Ban Ki-moon :
« Saving our planet, lifting people out of poverty, advancing economic growth — these are one and the same fight. »
Lisa Simrique Singh, Coordinatrice résidente des Nations Unies pour Maurice et les Seychelles, a donné le ton en rappelant la nécessité d’unir efforts publics et privés pour bâtir une économie bleue résiliente et inclusive, où « personne ne soit laissé pour compte ».
Rebuild : repenser les modèles économiques
La Chief Sustainability Executive du groupe ER, Sophie Desvaux de Marigny, a présenté le concept du Triple Bottom Line — People, Planet, Profit. Une approche où réussite économique, équité sociale et responsabilité environnementale se renforcent mutuellement.
De son côté, Meenakshee Kuntz, directrice d’Ezer Hadros Ltd, a plaidé pour l’intrapreneuriat, moteur d’innovation interne et levier de transformation durable des entreprises.
Le témoignage de Djaved Fareed, Corporate Sustainability Manager de Constance Hotels, Resorts & Golf, a illustré l’intégration précoce de la durabilité dans l’ADN du groupe hôtelier. Dès ses débuts, Constance a développé un modèle en harmonie avec l’écosystème, couronné aujourd’hui par des certifications internationales telles que Green Globe.
Regenerate : agir collectivement pour l’avenir
Cédric Bonne, de Tiremaster, a rappelé que la durabilité ne se limite pas à la protection de l’environnement :
« Être axé sur les résultats doit toujours aller de pair avec l’humain. »
Une approche intégrée qui rejoint les Objectifs de Développement Durable (ODD), notamment ceux de la lutte contre la pauvreté et de l’éducation de qualité.
Pour clore la journée, Sarafina Laprovidence (Green Key) a encouragé les participants à « construire de nouveaux modèles plutôt que de combattre l’existant ». Puis Emma Tong, Marketing and Sustainability Manager à Ocean’s Creek, a élargi la réflexion à la santé mentale, en soulignant que « la durabilité commence par la conscience et la bienveillance ».

En organisant cette première conférence sur la durabilité, Safe Sha Training Centre franchit un cap symbolique : celui d’un organisme de formation qui s’affirme comme moteur de transformation durable à Maurice.

The elegant setting of Ocean’s Creek Hotel became a hub of ideas and inspiration on October 3 as Safe Sha Training Centre Ltd, founded and led by Sameera Chattun Koyratty, hosted its first-ever sustainability conference under the theme “The Sustainability Advantage: Rethink, Rebuild, Regenerate.”
This event marked a significant milestone for Safe Sha, as the training institution expands beyond traditional learning to address one of today’s most urgent global imperatives: sustainability. It also reinforces Ocean’s Creek commitment towards a more sustainable future both for the tourism sector and Mauritian economy.
Rethink: Connecting the Dots for a Common Future
The day began with a powerful quote from former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon:
“Saving our planet, lifting people out of poverty, advancing economic growth — these are one and the same fight.”
Setting the tone, Lisa Simrique Singh, UN Resident Coordinator for Mauritius and Seychelles, emphasized the importance of the Blue Economy, climate resilience, and cross-sector collaboration to ensure that “no one is left behind.” Her keynote reminded participants that sustainability is not a choice but a shared responsibility.
Rebuild: Rethinking Business Models
Sophie Desvaux de Marigny, Chief Sustainability Executive at ER Group, presented a compelling reflection on the Triple Bottom Line — People, Planet, Profit. She stressed that true success extends beyond financial gains to include social equity and environmental stewardship.
Meenakshee Kuntz, Executive Director of Ezer Hadros Ltd, explored entrepreneurship and intrapreneurship as pathways to sustainable transformation within organizations.
From the hospitality sector, Djaved Fareed, Corporate Sustainability Manager at Constance Hotels, Resorts & Golf, shared the group’s long-standing commitment to environmental balance. Even before “sustainability” became a buzzword, Constance had already integrated responsible practices into its development model, later formalized through international certifications such as Green Globe.
Regenerate: Acting Together for Tomorrow
For Cedric Bonne of Tiremaster, sustainability extends far beyond “green” initiatives:
“Being results-driven must always go hand in hand with being people-driven.”
He highlighted the importance of aligning corporate impact with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), notably No Poverty and Quality Education.
Sarafina Laprovidence from Green Key encouraged participants to regenerate by “building new models that make the old ones obsolete.” Closing the day, Emma Tong, Marketing and Sustainability Manager at Ocean’s Creek, offered a reflective presentation titled “Going Back to the Roots.” She drew a powerful link between sustainability and mental well-being, reminding attendees that “the health of our planet and the well-being of our people are deeply intertwined.”
