Reflet parfait de l’identité interculturelle de Maurice, le groupe Patyatann qui a eu l’occasion de représenter le pays en Europe et dans l’océan Indien, va faire sa première tournée en Inde et au Népal. Invité par l’Institut Français en Inde et les Alliances Françaises du réseau indien, Patyatann fera une série de concerts entre le 12 mars et le 8 avril 2024, dans des villes emblématiques telles que Gurgaon, Chandigarh, Delhi, Pune, Bangalore, Indore, ainsi qu’à Katmandou. Cette tournée offre au groupe l’opportunité exceptionnelle de partager sa musique envoûtante, qui reflète la richesse culturelle et les subtilités de l’île Maurice, avec un public nouveau au-delà de nos frontières !
Pilotée par l’Alliance française de Chandigarh, cette tournée s’inscrit dans le cadre de la Saison Francophone en Inde qui prévoit un focus sur les territoires francophones de l’océan Indien, de mars à octobre 2024 et met ainsi en exergue les liens étroits entre l’Inde et l’Océan Indien, avant le Sommet de la Francophonie qui se tiendra en octobre 2024 à Paris.
« Bien plus qu’une simple tournée pour Patyatann, c’est une chance précieuse d’établir un pont culturel et musical entre la Grande Péninsule et l’île natale du groupe, mais aussi de renouer avec des racines communes. Les influences culturelles et musicales partagées, les instruments aux sonorités dansantes et mélodieuses, témoignent de la profonde connexion entre ces deux régions, faisant de cette tournée une célébration de la diversité et de l’échange », déclare Sarasvati Mallac, un des membres fondateurs du groupe qui va partager ses compositions en sanskrit, en français et en créole, ainsi que ses histoires, sonorités et rythmes mauriciens avec le public indien et népalais.
Composé de cinq musiciens polyvalents : Sarasvati Mallac, Anthony Bouic, Kan Chan Kin, Cledy François et Stephan Paul, le groupe a déjà eu l’opportunité de représenter l’île Maurice au World Event Young Artists en Angleterre. En 2013, il est devenu le premier groupe mauricien à se produire au Marché des Musiques de l’Océan Indien (IOMMA) à La Réunion et à remporter la troisième place du Prix Musiques de l’Océan Indien. Le groupe est aussitôt acclamé pour son authenticité, son style musical singulier et sa fraîcheur.

Music: Patyatann tours India and Nepal
A perfect reflection of Mauritius’ intercultural identity, the group Patyatann, which has had the opportunity to represent the country in Europe and the Indian Ocean, is about to embark on its first tour of India and Nepal. Invited by the Institut Français in India and the Alliances Françaises of the Indian network, Patyatann will be performing a series of concerts between 12 March and 8 April 2024, in iconic cities such as Gurgaon, Chandigarh, Delhi, Pune, Bangalore, Indore and Kathmandu. This tour offers the group an exceptional opportunity to share its spellbinding music, which reflects the cultural richness and subtleties of Mauritius, with a new audience beyond our borders!
Driven by the Alliance française of Chandigarh, this tour is part of the Saison Francophone en Inde, which will focus on the French-speaking territories of the Indian Ocean from March to October 2024, highlighting the close ties between India and the Indian Ocean ahead of the Francophonie Summit to be held in Paris in October 2024.
« Much more than just a tour for Patyatann, this is a precious opportunity to build a cultural and musical bridge between the Great Peninsula and the group’s native island, as well as to reconnect with shared roots. The shared cultural and musical influences, the danceable and melodious sounds of the instruments, testify to the deep connection between these two regions, making this tour a celebration of diversity and exchange », says Sarasvati Mallac, one of the founding members of the group, who will be sharing their compositions in Sanskrit, French and Creole, as well as their Mauritian stories, sounds and rhythms with Indian and Nepalese audiences.
Composed of five versatile musicians: Sarasvati Mallac, Anthony Bouic, Kan Chan Kin, Cledy François and Stephan Paul, the group has already had the opportunity to represent Mauritius at the World Event Young Artists in England. In 2013, they became the first Mauritian group to perform at the Indian Ocean Music Market (IOMMA) in La Réunion, winning third place in the Indian Ocean Music Prize. The group was immediately acclaimed for its authenticity, singular musical style and freshness.
In 2016, they successfully released their debut album, Sanpek, paving the way for an exciting tour of France and Switzerland in 2018. Patyatann’s music, a fusion of influences from Mauritius with sounds from the Indian Ocean and beyond, reflects the island’s cross-cultural identity. With songs performed in different languages and traditional Mauritian instruments, the combo creates an authentic and inspiring musical experience, conveying universal values such as respect for nature and the celebration of cultural diversity.
