Son départ pour Dubaï marque un tournant majeur. Dans un environnement artistique particulièrement compétitif, Zaahirah Muthy doit reconstruire sa carrière tout en affirmant son identité mauricienne.

For Zaahirah Muthy, art has never been merely about creating beautiful images. From an early age, drawing became her way of understanding the world around her. Over time, that passion evolved into a mission: using creativity to connect people, inspire change and build bridges across cultures.
Today, the Mauritian artist has established herself not only as a painter but also as an international curator and cultural entrepreneur committed to expanding opportunities for others.
Building an international journey
Leaving Mauritius for Dubai proved to be a defining moment. Entering one of the region’s most competitive art markets required resilience, adaptability and confidence in her own identity.
Rather than simply seeking exhibition opportunities, she focused on creating platforms that would allow artists from different backgrounds to connect and grow.
Her career now spans more than 90 exhibitions across over 20 countries. In 2025, she received the prestigious Vermeil Medal from the Société Arts-Sciences-Lettres in Paris, becoming the first Mauritian woman to receive the distinction in her category.
Art with a social purpose
Whether working in painting, collage or sculpture, Zaahirah’s creative practice is driven by the same values: authenticity, spirituality and transformation.
She has collaborated extensively with vulnerable communities, particularly women facing addiction or economic hardship. For her, art is not simply decorative—it is a catalyst for healing, dialogue and empowerment.
This philosophy also inspired the creation of ZeeArts Gallery, which supports emerging artists while fostering international exchanges. She also founded the Mauritius International Art Fair and initiated the Mauritius Art and Culture Investment Summit (MACIS), designed to strengthen Mauritius’ position within the regional creative economy.

People often assume she comes from different parts of the world because of her appearance, surname or accent. Yet Zaahirah proudly embraces her Mauritian identity.

Her long-term vision is to help position the island as a recognised cultural destination where creativity contributes to economic development and international dialogue.

Through international initiatives, she mentors emerging talents and helps them access global platforms. One particularly memorable experience involved helping a young Rwandan artist exhibit abroad for the first time, demonstrating how cultural leadership can genuinely change lives.
