Strategic transition for Mauritius’ hospitality industry
A new chapter for AHRIM
The Association des Hôteliers et Restaurateurs de l’île Maurice (AHRIM) is entering a new phase in its history. Its Chief Executive Officer, Jocelyn Kwok, will retire on 30 April 2026 after nearly fifteen years at the helm of the organisation and more than thirty-five years of professional commitment to Mauritius’ economic development.
Appointed in 2011, he steered the association through defining periods for the national tourism industry. Under his leadership, AHRIM strengthened its institutional credibility, reinforced its strategic role with public authorities and expanded its influence within the public–private dialogue. Competitiveness, training, sustainability and destination attractiveness were central pillars of his mandate.
Throughout his tenure, he consistently defended the interests of the hospitality sector in a spirit of responsibility and consultation, positioning AHRIM as a key policy advocate within the country’s economic landscape.
Shirin Gunny: a strategic profile for the next phase
To ensure continuity and prepare for the future, the Board of Directors, chaired by Stéphane Poupinel de Valencé, conducted a rigorous recruitment process, culminating in the appointment of Shirin Gunny as Chief Executive Officer. She will officially take office on 1 May 2026.
A graduate of HEC Montréal, Shirin Gunny built an international career in strategy and communications before returning to Mauritius in 2012 to lead the creation of the Made in Moris national label. Today, it represents a structured ecosystem bringing together more than 250 companies, 400 brands and over 4,000 products across eight economic sectors.
For the past four years, as Chief Executive Officer of the Association of Mauritian Manufacturers (AMM), she has strengthened the organisation’s strategic advocacy role in industrial competitiveness, innovation and sustainability, uniting public and private stakeholders around a shared vision for national economic development.
Continuity, transition and renewed ambition
A transition period will begin in mid-April 2026 to ensure a structured and seamless handover of responsibilities. This carefully managed succession aims to safeguard strategic continuity while opening a new cycle of consolidation and innovation.
At a time marked by ecological transition, technological transformation and evolving tourism models, Shirin Gunny’s appointment signals AHRIM’s determination to reinforce its position as a leading strategic voice for Mauritius’ hospitality industry.
This transition reflects both recognition of a structuring leadership legacy and a renewed ambition: to champion a demanding, responsible and sustainable vision of Mauritian tourism at the heart of national economic development.
