Formé en 2012, le collectif mauricien s’est imposé comme l’un des projets les plus singuliers de la scène de l’océan Indien, réunissant six artistes aux sensibilités multiples autour d’un même désir d’exploration. En octobre 2025, Patyatann dévoile Lanwit.Lizour, son deuxième album, aboutissement d’un long chemin de recherche, de maturation et d’écoute du monde.
Aux origines d’un parcours pionnier
L’histoire du groupe débute sur une note audacieuse. Très tôt, Patyatann est choisi pour représenter Maurice au World Event Young Artists en Angleterre, avant de se produire à l’Indian Ocean Music Market à La Réunion. Il devient ensuite le premier groupe mauricien à décrocher la troisième place du Prix Musiques de l’Océan Indien. En 2016, la sortie de Sanpek, salué pour sa fraîcheur et son originalité, marque un tournant décisif et propulse le groupe sur les scènes internationales.
Une évolution guidée par la recherche et l’expérimentation
Si les années ont passé et si la formation a évolué, l’essence du projet demeure intacte. La musique de Patyatann s’est enrichie, gagnant en profondeur et en intention. « Il ne s’agit plus seulement de fusionner des styles, mais de créer des espaces de résonance, de ressentir l’unité dans la diversité », confient les membres. L’expérimentation reste au cœur du processus, nourrie par de nouvelles voix et de nouveaux instruments qui ont largement façonné Lanwit.Lizour.
Six personnalités, un souffle commun
Derrière cette matière sonore organique se dessinent six personnalités complémentaires. Sarasvati Mallac, dite Mystipik, insuffle une aura mystique au groupe. Anthony Bouic y apporte une énergie scénique incandescente, tandis que Cled François en est le gardien du temps et de la structure. Kan Chan Kin, adepte du trash to music, redonne vie aux instruments, épaulé par la sagesse et l’ancrage spirituel de Stephan Paul. Nouvelle venue, la pianiste Shekina Mootanah vient couronner l’ensemble par la douceur et la finesse de son jeu.
Lanwit.Lizour, entre mythes, lumière et obscurité
Fruit de quatre années de création, Lanwit.Lizour déploie quinze titres comme autant de mondes à explorer. L’album puise dans les mythes, les contes et les légendes de l’île, donnant naissance à des personnages et des paysages imaginaires, de Trap Lekim à Shalmali, inspirée par Malcolm de Chazal et Robert Edward Hart. Mantras en sanskrit, poésie créole et vibrations organiques composent une fresque sonore qui invite à la contemplation et au voyage intérieur.
Deux titres pour entrer dans l’univers Patyatann
Pour découvrir Patyatann, deux morceaux s’imposent. Muriya Pahar, inspiré de la légende du Pieter Both, concrétise une collaboration marquante avec trois voix féminines du Geet Gawai. Lalinn, hommage à la lune et à ceux qui nous ont quittés, se déploie dans un clip animé signé Max Anish.
Entre enracinement et ouverture au monde
Ancré dans ses racines mais résolument ouvert à l’universel, Patyatann poursuit une quête d’équilibre entre héritage et création contemporaine. The beginnings of a pioneering journey
Patyatann’s story begins on an ambitious note. Early on, the group was selected to represent Mauritius at the World Event Young Artists in England, followed by a performance at the Indian Ocean Music Market in Réunion Island. It later became the first Mauritian band to win third place at the Indian Ocean Music Awards. The release of Sanpek in 2016, praised for its freshness and originality, marked a major milestone and opened the doors to international stages.
An evolution shaped by exploration and experimentation
Although time has passed and the lineup has evolved, the essence of the project remains unchanged. Patyatann’s music has grown richer, deeper and more intentional. “It is no longer just about blending styles, but about creating resonant spaces and sensing unity within diversity,” the band explains. Behind this organic soundscape lies a group of complementary personalities. Sarasvati Mallac, known as Mystipik, brings a mystical aura to the ensemble. Anthony Bouic fuels its stage presence with raw energy, while Cled François acts as the keeper of rhythm and structure. Kan Chan Kin, a specialist in trash to music, breathes new life into instruments, supported by the spiritual grounding and wisdom of Stephan Paul. Newcomer Shekina Mootanah, a gifted pianist, completes the ensemble with the subtlety and warmth of her touch.
Lanwit.Lizour: between myths, light and shadow
Four years in the making, Lanwit.Lizour unfolds across fifteen tracks, each opening a world of its own. Drawing from island myths, folktales and legends, the album introduces imaginary characters and landscapes, from Trap Lekim to Shalmali, inspired by the writings of Malcolm de Chazal and Robert Edward Hart. Sanskrit mantras, Creole poetry and organic vibrations form a sonic fresco that invites introspection and inner travel.
Two tracks to enter the Patyatann universe
For first-time listeners, two tracks stand out. Muriya Pahar, inspired by the legend of Pieter Both, features a powerful collaboration with three female voices from the Geet Gawai tradition.
