La mission du Projet Employabilité Jeunes est d’aider à l’insertion sociale et professionnelle des jeunes en rupture scolaire et en situation de précarité, grâce à un programme de formation qui inclut une remise à niveau, un apprentissage des métiers de l’hospitalité et un stage en milieu hôtelier. Ce programme initié par la FED en 2004, a offert en 18 ans, un nouveau départ à plus de 3 000 jeunes.
Cette année encore, la remise de diplômes a été empreinte d’émotion pour les 93 jeunes âgés entre 16 et 22 ans, qui ont fait preuve de volonté, de persévérance et d’une grande détermination à réussir ce parcours de formation de neuf mois comprenant cours théorique et stage en entreprise.
« Un grand bravo à vous tous qui avez suivi la formation depuis août 2021. En dépit des mesures sanitaires, vous avez continué à faire preuve d’une assiduité constante. Vos efforts sont aujourd’hui récompensés. Avec ce certificat, c’est un premier palier que vous avez franchi et qui, nous espérons, servira de tremplin vers une riche carrière », a déclaré Viren Vythelingum, CSR Manager de Beachcomber Resorts & Hotels, en s’adressant aux bénéficiaires. Il a aussi remercié la direction du Groupe Beachcomber qui porte un soutien continu au PEJ depuis 18 ans.
La dépense moyenne par nuitée est en hausse de 30 % par rapport au trimestre correspondant pré-Covid. Cette progression s’explique par le mix d’occupation couplé à un euro et une livre sterling forts. Les opérations mauriciennes enregistrent au terme de ce trimestre un chiffre d’affaires de Rs 1, 9 milliards, soit 9 %, en deçà du niveau pré-Covid. L’EBITDA s’élève à Rs 449 millions.
Ce stage a changé ma vie !
Un temps fort, a été le témoignage des jeunes du PEJ. Parmi lesquels, celui de Lorna Marie, 19 ans et aînée d’une fratrie de six enfants. « Je fréquentais le collège St Bartholomew à Port-Louis. Il fallait que je redouble ma Form V, mais faute de moyens financiers pour payer les frais d’examens du School Certificate, j’ai abandonné l’école. C’est à travers une amie que j’ai entendu parler du PEJ pour la première fois. Je me suis inscrite sans trop y croire. Et ce fut une véritable surprise lorsque l’équipe du PEJ m’a appelé pour m’informer que j’avais été retenue pour le programme», raconte-t-elle. En juin de l’année dernière, elle commence le cours. Après la formation théorique, la jeune fille intègre le Trou aux Biches Beachcomber Golf Resort & Spa pour acquérir l’expérience en hôtellerie. « Ce stage a changé ma vie ! J’ai découvert un métier que je ne connaissais pas du tout, celui d’animatrice de Kids Club et j’ai adoré ! Ces six mois passés au Kids Club m’ont permis de découvrir ma voie ! A la fin de PEJ, j’ai été admise à l’Ecole Hôtelière pour un NC3 Leisure & Entertainment. Une fois mon diplôme en poche, je rêve de travailler en tant qu’animatrice de Kids Club au Trou aux Biches Beachcomber », confie-t-elle, souriante.
Comme Lorna et ses camarades de l’édition 2021, des milliers de jeunes ont appris à se projeter, à avoir envie d’y arriver, et à s’insérer professionnellement, grâce à ce programme de formation de la Fondation Espoir Développement Beachcomber.
A new start for 93 young people thanks to Beachcomber's FED
93 young people have received their diplomas after completing courses under the Projet Employabilité Jeunes (PEJ) at Trou aux Biches Beachcomber Golf Resort & Spa and Paradis Beachcomber Golf Resort & Spa. Despite the difficulties of the last two years linked to the health crisis, the Beachcomber Group has maintained its commitment to this programme of integration through employment carried out under the auspices of the Beachcomber Development Hope Foundation (FED).
The mission of the Youth Employability Project is to help the social and professional integration of young people who have dropped out of school and are in precarious situations, thanks to a training programme that includes a refresher course, an apprenticeship in the hospitality industry and an internship in a hotel environment. This programme, initiated by the EDF in 2004, has given a new start to more than 3,000 young people in 18 years.
This year again, the graduation ceremony was full of emotion for the 93 young people aged between 16 and 22, who have shown willpower, perseverance, and great determination to succeed in this nine-month training course, which includes a theoretical course and a work placement.
« Congratulations to all of you who have completed the training since August 2021. Despite the health measures, you have continued to show consistent attendance. Your efforts are now rewarded. With this certificate, you have reached a first milestone which we hope will serve as a stepping stone to a rich career, » said Viren Vythelingum, CSR Manager of Beachcomber Resorts & Hotels, addressing the beneficiaries. He also thanked the management of the Beachcomber Group for their continued support of EYP over the past 18 years.
Testimonies
A highlight was the testimonies of the PEJ youth. Among them was Lorna Marie, 19 years old and the oldest of six children. « I was attending St Bartholomew’s College in Port Louis. I had to repeat my Form V, but due to a lack of funds to pay the School Certificate examination fees, I dropped out of school. It was through a friend that I first heard about EYP. I signed up without really believing it. And it was a real surprise when the EYP team called me to inform me that I had been selected for the programme, » she says. In June last year, she started the course. After the theoretical training, the young girl joined the Trou aux Biches Beachcomber Golf Resort & Spa to gain experience in the hotel business. « This course changed my life! I discovered a job that I did not know at all, that of Kids Club leader, and I loved it! These six months spent at Kids Club allowed me to discover my path! At the end of PEJ, I was admitted to the Hotel School for an NC3 Leisure & Entertainment. Once I have my diploma, I dream of working as a Kids Club animator at Trou aux Biches Beachcomber », she confides, smiling.
Like Lorna and her fellow students of the 2021 edition, thousands of young people have learned to project themselves, to want to succeed, and integrate professionally, thanks to this training programme of the Beachcomber Development Hope Foundation.
