Manu Desroches : Chapter of Sound II, l’océan Indien en musique

Manu Desroches: Chapter of Sound II, Music Across the Indian Ocean

Following two sold-out performances at the Caudan Arts Centre, Manu Desroches returns on September 12 with Chapter of Sound II. A completely reimagined musical creation, bringing Mauritian and Réunion artists together around a shared ambition: creating a dialogue between the musical cultures of the Indian Ocean.

A year after filling the Caudan Arts Centre twice, Manu Desroches is opening a new chapter. But Chapter of Sound II is not simply a return to a show that has already won over its audience. The Mauritian artist is taking the project further, reinventing his musical universe and giving it a stronger regional dimension.

The appointment is set for September 12, 2026, at 8 pm at the Caudan Arts Centre in Port Louis, for approximately 90 minutes of music, encounters and stage energy.

New arrangements, new compositions, a new artistic direction, original lighting and a redesigned stage setting: this new version of Chapter of Sound promises a more immersive experience. Alongside Manu Desroches, musicians, vocalists and guest artists from Mauritius and Réunion will come together for a creation conceived as a living, evolving work, with every collaboration bringing a new dimension to the songs.

The line-up includes Jalill Auckbaraullee, Steve Desvaux, Yogeshen Aroonachellum, Nel Bucktowar, Steeve Ric, Roxanne Marcelin and Laetitia Mariette, joined by French guest percussionist Frédéric Piot. In total, the show will bring together 13 guest stars and nine vocalists, in a musical encounter that reaches beyond borders.

From Mauritius to the International Stage

This desire to open up to the wider world is no coincidence. Since 2025, the Chapter of Sound project has gained momentum, reflecting growing recognition beyond Mauritius.

Manu Desroches was among the Top 10 finalists of the Prix Découvertes RFI, while his musical universe has surpassed 200,000 streams. His single Viv Vré was also featured in several international playlists in May and June 2025.

This recognition comes alongside a project built from the outset around artistic exchange. The Chapter of Sound album brings together artists and musicians from Mauritius, Réunion, Senegal, Cameroon, Italy, Germany and France. This diversity is reflected in its arrangements and musical textures, without ever distancing the project from its roots.

At its heart remains an identity deeply connected to Mauritius: the Creole language, the island’s rhythms, its stories and the emotions that run through the Indian Ocean.

The album’s sound production also reflects its international dimension. It was mixed and mastered in Paris by Jordan Kouby and Mickaël Rangeard, sound engineers who have worked with artists including Lenny Kravitz, Keziah Jones, Charlie Winston, Ayo and Imany.

For Manu Desroches, international exposure therefore does not mean moving away from his roots. On the contrary, it offers an opportunity to take a musical identity beyond its shores and place it in conversation with other creative voices.

Mauritius × Réunion: A Dialogue in Motion

With Chapter of Sound II, the Indian Ocean becomes a genuine creative space.

The collaboration between Mauritian and Réunion artists is one of the defining elements of this new edition. It brings together musical traditions that share a common history and certain roots, while leaving room for contemporary forms of expression.

The show aims to build bridges between traditional and contemporary music, poetry and stage energy, heritage and creation.

This approach takes on particular significance in a region where artists still have much to gain from travelling, meeting and creating together. Mauritius and Réunion are not simply neighbouring islands. They are part of a shared cultural history shaped by migration, languages, rhythms and cultural cross-pollination.

Chapter of Sound II turns this shared heritage into artistic material.

More than a concert, Manu Desroches is presenting a collective work shaped by encounters and transmission. It is also a reminder that music can help bring territories closer together and contribute to making a regional identity more visible on the international stage.

After two sold-out performances, the challenge is now different. It is no longer simply about confirming a popular success, but about allowing an artistic project to grow.

On September 12, the Caudan Arts Centre will therefore host a renewed Chapter of Sound: more ambitious, more immersive and more firmly connected to the wider Indian Ocean.

A new chapter for Manu Desroches — and an invitation to experience the Indian Ocean differently: as a space of creativity, movement and connection.
