La Tourism Authority (TA) a réuni mercredi au Hennesy Park Hotel ses partenaires pour un cocktail de remerciement. L’occasion pour revenir sur une année très riche pour cette instance. Le directeur, Lindsay Morvan a souligné que 2022 s’est démarquée des années précédentes, d’une part parce que c’était la reprise du secteur après deux années difficiles en raison de la pandémie et d’autre part, parce que cela à parmi à la TA d’aller au-delà du simple rôle de gendarme des opérations touristiques. Il est revenu sur l’implication de la TA dans la mise en place du tourisme durable à travers l’organisation des premiers Sustainable Awards suite au projet de Sustainable Island Mauritius (SIM) mis en place depuis 2018.
Destination verte
Un engagement payant puisqu’il a été récompensé sur le plan. En effet, la TA est devenue le tout premier récipiendaire des African NDC Investment Awards dans le domaine du tourisme, pour son innovation et l’ampleur de son impact sur l’industrie du tourisme et de l’hôtellerie, qui contribuent à construire un avenir plus durable et meilleur pour l’île, a rappelé Lindsay Morvan. Cette première édition des African NDC Investment Awards s’est tenue lors de la COP27 à Sharm El Sheikh, en Égypte, le 8 novembre dernier.

Pour sa part, l’ambassadeur de l’UE auprès de la République de Maurice, Vincent Degert a souligné le rôle du projet durant les moments difficiles et la communion fédérée avec les partenaires locaux. Le projet cofinancé par l’Union européenne dans le cadre du programme SWITCH Africa Green, vie à rendre plus vertes les activités des voyagistes et leurs chaînes de valeur à l’île Maurice.
Toute en soulignant que ce prix prestigieux est une reconnaissance de l’engagement du gouvernement mauricien en matière de gestion de l’environnement, M. Degert a rappelé qu’il y a encore beaucoup à faire, notamment en termes d’éducation des acteurs du tourisme mais aussi de la population et en particulier des jeunes, pour que Maurice soit enfin une destination complètement verte.

The Tourism Authority (TA) gathered its partners on Wednesday at the Hennesy Park Hotel for a cocktail party to thank them. It was an opportunity to look back on a very rich year for the Authority. The director, Lindsay Morvan stressed that 2022 was different from previous years, on the one hand. After all, it was the recovery of the sector after two difficult years due to the pandemic and on the other hand, it allowed the TA to go beyond the simple role of policing tourism operations. He went back to the involvement of the TA in the implementation of sustainable tourism through the organisation of the first Sustainable Awards following the Sustainable Island Mauritius (SIM) project set up in 2018.
A commitment that paid off as it was rewarded on the plan. Indeed, MT became the very first recipient of the African NDC Investment Awards in the field of tourism, for its innovation and the scale of its impact on the tourism and hotel industry, which contribute to building a more sustainable and better future for the island, recalled Lindsay Morvan. This first edition of the African NDC Investment Awards was held during the COP27 in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, on 8 November.
For his part, the EU Ambassador to Mauritius, Vincent Degert, underlined the role of the project during difficult times and the federated communion with local partners. The project, co-financed by the European Union under the SWITCH Africa Green programme, aims at greening the activities of tour operators and their value chains in Mauritius.
While underlining that this prestigious award is a recognition of the Mauritian government’s commitment to environmental management, Mr Degert recalled that there is still a lot to be done, notably in terms of educating tourism stakeholders but also the population and in particular young people, for Mauritius to finally become a completely green destination.
