KI PU KWI : les vins Samsara célèbrent les talents culinaires locaux

June 6, 5:39 pm

“KI PU KWI: Samsara Wines Celebrates Local Culinary Talent”

On Saturday, 24 May 2025, Samsara Wines marked a new chapter in its brand story with the launch of the inaugural “KI PU KWI – The Samsara Cooking Competition”. Held at the prestigious École Hôtelière Sir Gaëtan Duval in Rose Hill, the event brought together six passionate amateur chefs in a vibrant contest that fused creativity, technique, and the art of wine pairing.

At the heart of this initiative was a clear purpose: to celebrate local talent while promoting the versatility of Samsara wines in Mauritian gastronomy. More than a competition, KI PU KWI was a platform — one where bold ideas, homegrown ingredients, and culinary dreams came to life.

Building Buzz, One Post at a Time

The competition’s momentum was driven by an integrated digital campaign, led by brand ambassador Johann Hyacinthe, whose engaging content helped build anticipation across social platforms. His teaser video and wine-pairing challenges resonated widely, racking up over 100,000 views and igniting excitement among food lovers across the island.

Simultaneously, Super U’s in-store displays offered strong visibility and encouraged aspiring chefs to take part. Finalists were chosen based on originality, visual appeal, and inventive use of Samsara wines in their recipes.

A Day of Flavour and Creativity

On competition day, the six finalists were welcomed with a warm breakfast and gifted branded kits, including Samsara aprons, polos, and chef hats. The challenge? A mystery box cook-off featuring premium ingredients — most notably a salmon fillet and a curated selection of Samsara wines.

With just two hours on the clock, each contestant had to prepare and present a dish that would impress a panel of professional judges. Evaluation criteria included taste, presentation, originality, and wine pairing — with each finalist delivering a unique interpretation of the challenge.

Spotlight on the Winners

  • 1st Place: Ricardo Uppiah, whose salmon roulade with spinach and white wine emulsion stood out for its elegance and technical finesse.
  • 2nd Place: Kavya Ramdhary, with a beautifully balanced herb-crusted salmon, lemon cream wine sauce, and sautéed mushrooms.
  • 3rd Place: Gulshan Roy, who wowed the jury with rosé-braised vegetables, beurre blanc, and perfectly pan-seared salmon.

The remaining finalists — Gytree Menowa Koosul, Vidushi Gowreesunker, and Marina Marie Angel Lashuana — were also celebrated for their creativity and received Samsara gift packs in recognition of their participation.

A Celebration Beyond the Plate

Beyond the competition, KI PU KWI became a space for connection and celebration. A post-event networking buffet encouraged dialogue among chefs, food enthusiasts, and influencers, reinforcing Samsara’s commitment to building a vibrant culinary community.

The initiative also reflected the brand’s values of giving back: leftover ingredients from the competition were donated to the École Hôtelière to support ongoing culinary training for students.

With the successful launch of its first edition, KI PU KWI positions itself as more than just a competition — it’s a celebration of Mauritius’ evolving food culture, and a bold expression of what Samsara Wines stands for: passion, community, and the joy of shared experiences. Stay tuned for what’s next — this is just the beginning.
