La première édition du Trail du Chemin Français, organisée le samedi 1er juin à Riche-en-Eau, a tenu toutes ses promesses. Organisé par le Groupe Beau Vallon en partenariat avec Rando Trail & Nature (RTN), cet événement a réuni quelque 500 participants dans les différentes catégories.
Chez les hommes, l’Allemand Noa Ohms s’est distingué en remportant la course du Sentier du Chemin Français. Il a bouclé les 23 km en 1 h 41.01. Ezékiel Colin et Vishal Ittoo ont complété le podium en 1 h 46.52 et 1 h 51.33 respectivement. Chez les femmes, Fanny Haff a pris la première place en 2h37.15. Elle devance Ashmita Seepursaund (2 h 41.44) et Celia Halbwachs (2 h 41.59).
Le trail du Sentier de la Rivière des Créoles, long de 12 km, a réuni un peu plus de 300 participants. Chez les hommes, Xavier Verny est monté sur la plus haute marche du podium en s’imposant en 53 : 10. Badal Dusooa a pris la deuxième place en 54 : 41, tandis que Godwyn Piang Nee a complété le podium en 57 : 55. La victoire en féminin est revenue à Malika Ramasawmy en 1 h 23.34. Damini Ramcharan-Maloo et Bridget Dougherty ont pris les deuxième et troisième places en 1h25.23 et 1 h 25.28.
Ce trail a permis aux participants de profiter de la beauté de la région du Sud-Est. C’est la première fois que les sentiers du Chemin Français ont été ouverts au public par le Groupe Beau Vallon. Cette route date de la colonisation française. Elle a été construite pour relier Mahébourg à Port-Louis lors du déplacement du chef-lieu de l’île à Port Louis, et fait partie des quelques sentiers historiques préservés
Le Groupe Beau Vallon se dit satisfait de l’organisation et de l’ambiance qui a régné pendant cette première édition. « C’est une première édition réussie. Les participants ont pu découvrir les paysages du Chemin Français qui offrent un spectacle magnifique tant sur le lagon de Mahébourg que sur les montagnes environnantes. De plus, ce parcours inédit est de par sa configuration, différent de ce que les coureurs ont l’habitude de faire dans les autres trails. Le Groupe Beau Vallon va continuer à promouvoir l’écotourisme et les loisirs non-motorisés », a affirmé Thierry Merven, CEO du Groupe Beau Vallon.
Cette première édition du Trail du Chemin Français a malheureusement vu la disparition du coureur Gianeshwar Ramsawock, un habitué des trails et des randonnées. Il a été pris d’un malaise à quelques kilomètres de l’arrivée et n’a pu être réanimé malgré les soins prodigués. C’est une perte pour la communauté des coureurs. « En tant que sponsor de cette course, nous tenons à exprimer nos plus sincères condoléances à la famille de Gianeshwar. Nos pensées les accompagnent dans ces moments difficiles. Nous sommes également attristés pour l’ensemble de la communauté des traileurs touché par cette perte. Nous garderons en mémoire la passion de M. Ramsawock pour le trail et nous nous unissons à Rando Trail & Nature pour honorer sa mémoire », a déclaré Thierry Merven.
Trail du Chemin Français: Fanny Haff and Noah Ohms win the first event
The first edition of the Trail du Chemin Français, held on Saturday 1 June in Riche-en-Eau, lived up to all its promises. Organised by Groupe Beau Vallon in partnership with Rando Trail & Nature (RTN), the event attracted some 500 participants in various categories.
In the men’s category, German Noa Ohms stood out by winning the Sentier du Chemin Français race. He completed the 23km course in 1 h 41.01. This trail allowed participants to enjoy the beauty of the South East region. This was the first time that the Chemin Français trails had been opened to the public by Groupe Beau Vallon. This road dates back to French colonisation. It was built as a link between Mahébourg and Port-Louis when the island’s capital was moved to Port Louis and is one of the few preserved historic paths.
Groupe Beau Vallon is satisfied with the organisation and atmosphere of this first event. « It was a successful first edition. Participants were able to discover the landscapes of the Chemin Français, which offer a magnificent view of both the Mahébourg lagoon and the surrounding mountains. What’s more, the layout of this new route is different from what runners are used to doing on other trails. The Beau Vallon Group will continue to promote ecotourism and non-motorised leisure activities », said Thierry Merven, CEO of the Beau Vallon Group.
This first edition of the Trail du Chemin Français sadly saw the death of runner Gianeshwar Ramsawock, a regular on trails and hikes. He collapsed a few kilometres from the finish and could not be resuscitated despite the care he received. It’s a loss for the running community. « As sponsor of this race, we would like to express our deepest condolences to Gianeshwar’s family. Our thoughts are with them at this difficult time. We are also saddened for the entire running community affected by this loss. We will always remember Mr Ramsawock’s passion for trail running and we join Rando Trail & Nature in honouring his memory, » said Thierry Merven.
