Sur le green du Dodo Club, à Curepipe, des rires d’enfants se mêlent au bruit des clubs qui frappent les balles. Pour beaucoup d’entre eux, c’est une première – une découverte d’un sport jusque-là perçu comme lointain, voire inaccessible. Grâce à la Fondation Espoir Développement Beachcomber (FED), ils apprennent aujourd’hui à tenir un club, à viser juste, mais surtout à croire en leurs capacités.
Après le succès de sa Tennis Academy à Trou aux Biches, la Fondation poursuit son engagement pour l’inclusion sociale par le sport avec le lancement d’une Golf Academy à Curepipe. Réalisée en partenariat avec la Mauritius Golf Federation (MGF) et The Islander Golf Academy (TIGA), cette initiative réunit 28 enfants âgés de 8 à 15 ans issus de la Résidence La Brasserie.
L’objectif : ouvrir les portes du golf à tous, détecter les jeunes talents et favoriser leur épanouissement à travers les valeurs de respect, de concentration et de persévérance. Tous les frais liés à la formation sont entièrement pris en charge par la FED et ses partenaires.
Chaque lundi après-midi, un minibus conduit les apprentis golfeurs au Dodo Club pour leur séance hebdomadaire, encadrée par les coachs Owen Charlot et Dinesh Parag. Entre deux swings, l’enthousiasme est palpable. « Certains regardent déjà des tutoriels pour s’améliorer. En à peine deux mois, leurs progrès sont remarquables », se réjouit Owen Charlot.
Ciara Valère et Cassandra Delrosa, 13 ans, font partie des plus assidues. « J’adore le swing ! Je m’entraîne même à la maison », sourit Ciara. Cassandra, passionnée de sport, confie : « Ce que j’aime dans le golf, c’est le calme, la précision, et le contact avec la nature. »
Pour Viren Vythelingum, CSR Manager de Beachcomber Resorts & Hotels, cette académie marque une étape clé :
« Nous voulons démocratiser des disciplines souvent perçues comme élitistes et offrir à des jeunes issus de milieux vulnérables la possibilité de s’y épanouir. »

À Curepipe, ces premiers swings ne sont pas qu’un apprentissage sportif — ils symbolisent une belle promesse d’avenir.
Swings for the Future: The Beachcomber Foundation Introduces Golf to the Youth of Curepipe
On the greens of the Dodo Club in Curepipe, the laughter of children mingles with the rhythmic sound of golf clubs hitting the ball. For many of them, it’s a first — the discovery of a sport once seen as distant or out of reach. Thanks to the Fondation Espoir Développement Beachcomber (FED), they’re learning not only how to swing, aim, and play, but also how to believe in themselves.
Following the success of its Tennis Academy in Trou aux Biches, the Foundation continues its mission of social inclusion through sport with the launch of a brand-new Golf Academy in Curepipe. Developed in partnership with the Mauritius Golf Federation (MGF) and The Islander Golf Academy (TIGA), the initiative welcomes 28 children aged between 8 and 15 from the Résidence La Brasserie community.
Its goal: to open the world of golf to new players, identify young talent, and encourage personal growth through the sport’s values of discipline, respect, and perseverance. All training costs are fully covered by the FED and its partners.
Every Monday afternoon, a minibus picks up the young golfers for their weekly practice session at the Dodo Club, under the guidance of coaches Owen Charlot and Dinesh Parag. On the course, concentration and enthusiasm go hand in hand. “The kids’ motivation is incredible — some even watch online tutorials to improve their game. Considering they had never held a golf club just two months ago, their progress is impressive,” says Owen Charlot proudly.
Among the most dedicated are Ciara Valère and Cassandra Delrosa, both 13 years old. “I love the swing! I watch videos to get better and try to hit the ball with fewer strokes,” smiles Ciara. Cassandra, who also enjoys basketball and football, admits she’s fallen in love with golf: “I like the calm and focus it requires — and being surrounded by nature makes it even more special.”
For Viren Vythelingum, CSR Manager at Beachcomber Resorts & Hotels, the Golf Academy represents a key milestone:
“Our goal is to democratize sports often perceived as elitist and give young people from vulnerable communities the chance to grow through them.”

In Curepipe, every swing on the green carries more than just a lesson in sport — it’s a powerful swing toward the future.
