At IFTM Paris, Richard Duval announces ARCHIPEL | MAURITIA in Mauritius
Tourism Minister Richard Duval used the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority’s cocktail reception on Tuesday, 15 September, at the Mauritius stand at IFTM Top Resa Paris, to announce the arrival in Mauritius of ARCHIPEL | MAURITIA. From 14 October, this artistic experience conceived by French artist Yacine Aït Kaci and supported by the ELYX Foundation will be presented at Odysseo.
A different way of telling Mauritius
What if Mauritius told its story differently? This is the idea behind ARCHIPEL | MAURITIA, the new artistic experience announced by Richard Duval to French tourism professionals at IFTM Top Resa.
From 14 October 2026, the Odysseo Oceanarium will host the creation of French artist Yacine Aït Kaci, founder of the ELYX universe, with the support of the ELYX Foundation. Through a narrative universe combining fiction and reality, ARCHIPEL tells real stories: those of Mauritian people and organisations working to protect ecosystems and heritage and to shape the country’s future.
The project has already attracted attention in France. Presented in Nice in June 2025 as part of the United Nations Ocean Conference, ARCHIPEL welcomed around 60,000 visitors, according to figures presented during the announcement.
The arrival of ARCHIPEL in Mauritius takes on particular significance at Odysseo. Located in Port Louis, the oceanarium is dedicated to showcasing the marine wealth of the Indian Ocean and raising awareness of the importance of protecting its ecosystems.
The exhibition offers a different perspective on the island. Beyond beaches and landscapes, Mauritius is presented through its natural heritage, biodiversity, initiatives and, above all, the women and men helping to shape its future.
This approach echoes Richard Duval’s message to French tourism professionals. For the minister, the destination’s ambition is not simply to attract more visitors, but to give them an experience strong enough for them to leave with an emotion, a story to tell and the desire to return.
ARCHIPEL could become an important part of that new narrative.
France, a historic partner
The MTPA cocktail also provided Richard Duval with an opportunity to highlight the depth of the relationship between Mauritius and France, particularly in tourism, hospitality and culture.
Referring to his father, Serge Ayrton Duval, the minister recalled that he had identified France as an engine of Mauritius’ economic and tourism development as early as the 1970s. According to Richard Duval, that relationship remains particularly strong today.
The figures quoted by the minister illustrate the importance of the French market. In 2025, 337,502 visitors from mainland France travelled to Mauritius, representing 23.5% of total arrivals. Including visitors from the wider region, the French market accounted, according to figures cited during the reception, for 33.6% of arrivals.
Richard Duval also noted that Mauritius recorded 1,436,250 tourist arrivals in 2025, described as a record year, with tourism revenues reported at Rs 103 billion.
The minister further stressed his determination to continue opening Mauritius’ skies. According to him, a permanent committee reporting directly to the Prime Minister has been established to accelerate work on air access.
With ARCHIPEL | MAURITIA, Mauritius is therefore preparing to host an exhibition that goes beyond a cultural event. By placing those who protect, create and reinvent the island at the centre of its narrative, it offers a new way of telling the story of Mauritius.
The date is now set: 14 October, at Odysseo.
