Pendant plusieurs jours, Ocean’s Creek Beach Hotel a troqué son atmosphère balnéaire habituelle pour devenir un véritable carrefour artistique international. Du 8 au 14 mai 2026, l’hôtel de Balaclava a accueilli Arts Across Oceans 2026, une exposition réunissant des artistes venus d’Afrique, d’Europe et d’Asie autour d’un même objectif : faire dialoguer les cultures à travers l’art.
Cette initiative s’inscrivait dans le prolongement de la conférence internationale du MACIS organisée à Maurice en mars dernier, mais également dans le cadre des célébrations du mois des Arts en avril. Elle reflète aussi une volonté plus large : faire de l’art et de la culture des leviers pour enrichir l’offre touristique mauricienne.
Ocean’s Creek mise sur l’art comme expérience touristique
Dans un secteur hôtelier où l’expérience devient aussi importante que l’hébergement lui-même, Ocean’s Creek affirme progressivement sa singularité. Avec Arts Across Oceans 2026, l’établissement démontre qu’un hôtel peut également devenir un espace de rencontres culturelles, de créativité et de dialogue international.
Le cadre du lagon de Balaclava a offert un décor particulièrement inspirant à cette manifestation artistique. Les visiteurs ont pu découvrir des œuvres variées mêlant différentes sensibilités, techniques et influences culturelles. L’exposition a notamment été portée par un partenariat entre PAINT (Afrique du Sud) et AlRwind Arts (Maurice).
Des artistes venus d’Afrique du Sud, de Belgique, de Russie, d’Angleterre, de Chine, d’Inde et de Maurice ont participé à cette aventure collective, mettant en lumière la richesse de la diversité artistique contemporaine.
L’art comme passerelle entre les cultures
Au-delà des œuvres exposées, l’événement voulait surtout célébrer la capacité de l’art à créer des ponts entre les peuples. La présence de plusieurs personnalités diplomatiques et culturelles a renforcé cette dimension internationale.
La Haute-Commissaire d’Afrique du Sud à Maurice, Son Excellence le Dr Nzimande, a notamment salué le rôle de l’art dans la promotion du dialogue, de la diversité et de la connexion humaine à travers les frontières. Le directeur de la MTPA, Benoît Harter était aussi pour apporter le soutien de son organisme à cette initiative et plus largement le tourisme culturel.
Les organisateurs ont également tenu à souligner le soutien apporté par Ocean’s Creek Beach Hotel et ses équipes, en particulier le directeur général Vincent Comarmond, ainsi que la direction des opérations représentée par Amedee Le Roy. Leur implication a contribué à transformer l’hôtel en une plateforme culturelle ouverte sur le monde.
Une nouvelle voie pour le tourisme mauricien
À travers ce type d’initiative, Maurice explore une autre manière de valoriser sa destination : celle du tourisme culturel et expérientiel. Dans un contexte où les voyageurs recherchent davantage d’authenticité, de rencontres et de sens, l’intégration d’événements artistiques dans l’univers hôtelier ouvre de nouvelles perspectives.

Arts Across Oceans 2026: when art connects Mauritius to the world at Ocean’s Creek
For several days, Ocean’s Creek Beach Hotel transformed itself into an international artistic hub. From 8 to 14 May 2026, the Balaclava-based hotel hosted Arts Across Oceans 2026, an exhibition bringing together artists from Africa, Europe and Asia around a common vision: connecting cultures through art.
The initiative followed the international MACIS conference held in Mauritius in March and also formed part of the broader Arts Month celebrations. Beyond the exhibition itself, the event reflected a growing ambition to position art and culture as valuable components of Mauritius’ tourism offering.
Ocean’s Creek embraces art as a tourism experience
In an increasingly experience-driven hospitality industry, Ocean’s Creek continues to shape a distinctive identity. Through Arts Across Oceans 2026, the hotel demonstrated how a hospitality venue can also become a cultural meeting point fostering creativity, dialogue and international exchange.
Set against the scenic backdrop of Balaclava lagoon, the exhibition showcased a wide range of artistic expressions and cultural influences. The project was notably supported through a collaboration between PAINT (South Africa) and AlRwind Arts (Mauritius).
Artists from South Africa, Belgium, Russia, England, China, India and Mauritius participated in the exhibition, highlighting the richness and diversity of contemporary international art.
Art as a bridge between cultures
Beyond the artworks themselves, the event aimed to celebrate the ability of art to unite people across borders. The presence of diplomatic and cultural personalities reinforced the international dimension of the gathering.
South Africa’s High Commissioner to Mauritius, Her Excellency Dr Nzimande, praised the role of art in promoting dialogue, diversity and global human connection. Benoît Harter, director of the MTPA, was also in favor of his organisation supporting this initiative and, more broadly, cultural tourism.
The organisers also acknowledged the support of Ocean’s Creek Beach Hotel and its teams, particularly General Manager Vincent Comarmond and Operations Manager Amedee Le Roy, whose involvement helped transform the hotel into an open cultural platform.
A new direction for Mauritian tourism
Through initiatives such as this, Mauritius is exploring new ways of enriching its tourism identity through culture and experiences.
