Amateurs de trail et de nature, chaussez vos crampons pour une grande première : le Trail du Chemin Français qui aura lieu le samedi 1er juin 2024 à Riche-en-Eau. Cet événement organisé par le Groupe Beau Vallon, en collaboration avec le Rando Trail et Nature, s’annonce passionnant. Une fois de plus, le cachet unique du Sud-Est sera mis en avant lors de ce trail, alliant des parcours très techniques par moments à la beauté de la région.
Le Chemin Français doit son nom, à l’époque où l’île Maurice était une colonie française. À cette période, les ouvriers avaient tracé un chemin reliant Mahébourg à Port-Louis, en passant par Quartier Militaire et certains de ces sentiers ont été préservés, notamment celui du Sud-Est.
Trois parcours inédits sont au programme de cette première édition ; La première est une Fun Race de 4 km dans les champs de cannes, les jardins et bassins du château de Riche-en-Eau.
Le Groupe Beau Vallon veut promouvoir des activités d’écotourisme comme le VTT, le trail, les circuits de découverte, les descentes de rivières et les sports nautiques non motorisés.
Le Trail du Chemin Français permettra aux participants de parcourir cette région de l’île riche en ressources, avec ses rivières, ses montagnes, ses terres agricoles préservées, ainsi que le magnifique lagon allant de Pointe d’Esny-Mahébourg à Blue Bay et un patrimoine historique exceptionnel.

Nous invitons les participants au Trail du Chemin Français à s’immerger littéralement dans les paysages authentiques, sauvages et préservés de Riche-en-Eau tout en se dépassant physiquement sur les parcours proposés », souligne Thierry Merven, CEO du Groupe Beau Vallon.
Pour Philippe Hardy, Président de Rando Trail et Nature, “cette première édition du Trail du Chemin Français sera une opportunité unique de courir sur un parcours inédit dans le Sud-Est de l’Ile, sachant que beaucoup de courses de Trail évoluent dans l’Ouest de par le relief et le Parc National ». « Ce parcours sera très varié avec une première partie assez roulante suivie de passages extrêmement techniques dans un milieu aliant tour à tour, champs de canne, forêt d’eucalyptus, sentiers et chemins de chassé, le tout avec un dénivelé de bon niveau »
The Beau Vallon group hosts its first Trail du Chemin Français
Trail and nature lovers, strap on your spikes for a major first: the Trail du Chemin Français, to be held on Saturday 1 June 2024 in Riche-en-Eau. The event, organised by Groupe Beau Vallon in conjunction with Rando Trail et Nature, promises to be a thrilling affair. Once again, the unique character of the South-East will be showcased during this trail, combining highly technical routes at times with the beauty of the region.
The Chemin Français owes its name to the time when Mauritius was a French colony. At that time, workers laid out a path linking Mahébourg to Port-Louis, passing through Quartier Militaire, and some of these paths have been preserved, notably the one in the southeast.
Three new routes are on the programme for this first edition. The first is a 4km Fun Race through the cane fields, gardens and ponds of the Château de Riche-en-Eau.
The Short Trail, along the Rivière des Créoles, is 12km long (D +330), with the usual challenges of rocks, roots and plants. The level of difficulty could increase depending on the weather conditions. So be prepared for anything! This route will offer participants a 360-degree panoramic view of the entire southeast coast and landscapes that will leave no one indifferent.
The third race will be the 23km Long Trail (Sentier du Chemin Français) (D +650). The level of difficulty will be higher, with various technical challenges along the way. Once again, the 360-degree panoramic view will be a real eye-catcher for participants, with the Mahébourg lagoon as the main attraction.
Note that this first edition will count towards the Trail League.
Groupe Beau Vallon aims to promote eco-tourism activities such as mountain biking, trail running, discovery tours, river descents and non-motorised water sports.
The Trail du Chemin Français will enable participants to explore this resource-rich region of the island, with its rivers, mountains and unspoilt farmland, as well as the magnificent lagoon stretching from Pointe d’Esny-Mahébourg to Blue Bay and an exceptional historical heritage.
« Over and above the sporting aspect, it will be an opportunity to admire this part of the island that is little known to the general public. The Chemin Français is part of the island’s history and this is the first time we’ve opened up our tracks and trails to runners, so we’re hoping there will be plenty of them to inaugurate this new route. We invite participants in the Trail du Chemin Français to immerse themselves in the authentic, wild and unspoilt landscapes of Riche-en-Eau while challenging themselves physically on the routes on offer », emphasises Thierry Merven, CEO of the Beau Vallon Group.
For Philippe Hardy, President of Rando Trail et Nature, « this first edition of the Trail du Chemin Français will be a unique opportunity to run on a new course in the south-east of the island, given that many trail races take place in the west because of the terrain and the National Park ». « The course will be very varied, with a fairly rolling first section followed by some extremely technical sections in an environment that alternates between sugar cane fields, eucalyptus forest, trails and hunting paths, all with a good level of ascent.
