Après trois années d’absence pour cause de Covid-19, le festival de kitesurf de Rodrigues (RIFK) revient cette année du 26 au 30 juillet sous le signe de l’écologie. Organisé par la Rodrigues Kitesurf Association (RKA), le RIKF est à la fois un rendez-vous des champions, des passionnés du grand bleu et des amoureux de la nature. Évènement devenu incontournable dans le calendrier culturel et sportif de l’île Rodrigues, le festival permet de découvrir une destination touristique hors pair. Cette année, la marraine du festival est la championne espagnole, Gisèla Pulido.
Anse Mourouk, un des meilleurs spots au monde
Bénéficiant du soutien de l’Assemblée régionale, de la Commission du Tourisme et de la Jeunesse et des Sports, l’édition 2023 du festival servira ainsi de préparation pour les kitesurfeurs qui participeront à la XIe édition des Jeux des Îles de l’Océan Indien (JIOI) qui se dérouleront à Madagascar du 25 août au 3 septembre 2023. Du côté du Rodrigues Kitesurf Association, (RKA) on affine le programme et le déroulement des compétitions. Classé parmi les meilleurs spots au monde pour la pratique du kitesurf, c’est sans surprise qu’Anse Mourouk a une nouvelle fois été choisie pour accueillir le RIKF.
L’objectif du festival est également de promouvoir l’île Rodrigues en tant que destination touristique éco-nature, faire connaître toute sa beauté sauvage, entre ciel, lagon et nature verdoyante. Un havre de paix, presque hors du temps et des circuits touristiques classiques, grâce à une population accueillante qui a su conserver toutes ses traditions. Le festival a également pour but de professionnaliser le kitesurf à Rodrigues, inciter les jeunes à pratiquer ce sport de glisse en plein essor, booster les arrivées durant la basse saison auprès des visiteurs passionnés du kitesurf et faire de Rodrigues, le lieu par excellence de l’Océan Indien pour la pratique du kitesurf. Et cette année comme nouveauté, le festival accueillera en clôture une initiation de pilotage de cerf-volant.
Autre fait marquant, la marraine du 8e festival est Gisela Pulido. L’Espagnole est entrée dans le fameux Guinness Book des Records en 2004, comme étant la plus jeune championne du monde de l’histoire du kitesurf. Elle est alors âgée de seulement 10 ans, et évolue au milieu des adultes sur le circuit KPW. La championne s’est octroyé huit titres mondiaux consécutifs en freestyle entre 2004 et 2011 !

Rodrigues: the international kitesurfing festival comes back in July
After three years of absence due to Covid-19, the Rodrigues International Kitesurfing Festival (RIFK) is back this year from July 26 to 30 under the sign of ecology. Organised by the Rodrigues Kitesurf Association (RKA), the RIKF is at the same time a meeting place for champions, big blue enthusiasts, and nature lovers. The festival has become an essential event in the cultural and sporting calendar of Rodrigues Island and is an opportunity to discover an outstanding tourist destination. This year, the festival’s patron is Spanish champion, Gisèla Pulido.
With the support of the Regional Assembly, the Tourism Commission and the Youth and Sports Commission, the 2023 edition of the festival will serve as a preparation for the kitesurfers who will participate in the XIth edition of the Indian Ocean Islands Games (IOIG), which will take place in Madagascar from 25 August to 3 September 2023. The Rodrigues Kitesurf Association (RKA) is fine-tuning the programme and the competition schedule. Ranked among the best spots in the world for kitesurfing, it is without surprise that Anse Mourouk has once again been chosen to host the RIKF.
The objective of the festival is also to promote Rodrigues Island as an eco-nature tourist destination, to make known all its wild beauty, between sky, lagoon, and green nature. A haven of peace, almost out of time and out of the classical tourist circuits, thanks to a welcoming population that has managed to preserve all its traditions.
The festival also aims to professionalise kitesurfing in Rodrigues, encourage young people to practice this booming sport, boost arrivals during the low season among visitors who are passionate about kitesurfing and make Rodrigues the place par excellence in the Indian Ocean for kitesurfing. And this year, as a novelty, the festival will host a kite-flying initiation at the end of the event.
Another highlight is that the patron of the 8th festival is Gisela Pulido. The Spaniard entered the famous Guinness Book of Records in 2004 as the youngest world champion in the history of kiteboarding. She was only 10 years old at the time and was competing with the adults on the KPW circuit. The champion won eight consecutive world freestyle titles between 2004 and 2011!
